Ecobarrier Silt Curtains

Control and Contain Silt and Sediment -

Ecobarrier Silt Curtains are designed to contain the fine particles of silt that are discharged into the water from dredging, construction or reclamation activities..

Silt curtains (also called turbidity curtains, silt screens or silt barricades) are vertical barriers positioned within the water that contain the fine particles of silt discharged into the water from dredging, construction or reclamation activities.

Ecocoast was the first manufacturer of the full range of silt curtains in the EMEA region, under the brand Ecobarrier® (silt curtains Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV and now also Type V). Our silt curtains are always tailored to suit specific conditions and project requirements. As an example, we designed and manufactured the screen for The Ocean Cleanup's System 001, a full customized solution.

Having a contracting background, we understand the silt curtain installation requirements. We specifically design and manufacture our silt curtains for durability, ease of installation and long-term use, to reduce replacement and repair costs. We manufacture the strongest silt curtains in the world, meaning that at the end of each job, they can be recycled and reused instead of winding up in a landfill.

ApplicationsEcobarrier Silt Curtain Type I is the most economical curtain. It is designed for short-term installations in sheltered waters with low tidal flow and minimal waves.Ecobarrier Silt Curtain Type II is the most versatile curtain, designed for longer term installations in sheltered waters or areas with moderate tidal flow.Ecobarrier Silt Curtain Type III is designed for rougher waters, stronger currents or long duration installations, due to increased strength and buoyancy.Ecobarrier Silt Curtain Type IV is the offshore version, designed for offshore conditions with strong currents and moderate waves. The Type IV curtain is designed for multiple re-use.The Type III Ecobarrier Seabed Suspended Curtains are designed for currents up to 1.5m/s and short duration wind/wave action (tidal regions). For use with grab or backhoe dredger. Suitable for repeated, long-term use in various marine environments.

Ecobarrier Silt Curtains

Ecobarrier Silt Curtain Type I is a light-weight inshore curtain that is ideal for lower energy environments and sheltered deployments with no significant wind or currents. The curtain is designed and manufactured to Gulf Specifications, meaning that it has reinforcing layers and tension bands for additional durability. It is built to last.

FAQ

A silt curtain (or silt screen, silt fence, turbidity barrier) is a semi-permeable barrier that is an extremely effective solution in controlling dispersed suspended sediments when specified and installed correctly. A silt curtain is designed to act as a settlement pond by allowing silts to settle from the upper portion of the water, in order to reduce the impact on the marine environment.
A silt curtain was originally designed to trap sediment during dredging, construction and reclamation works to protect the marine environment. Today, a silt curtain is being used for a much wider range of purposes, from dewatering, outfall containment to intake protection and many other projects where sediment control is required.
The objective of a silt curtain is to provide a settlement area for suspended sediment to settle out of the upper portion of the water column. By allowing sediment to settle, the area of spread will be limited significantly and the chance of sediment being re-suspended will be reduced, minimizing any potential environmental damage.
Water should always be allowed to flow underneath the silt curtain. A minimum 0.5m gap should exist between the weighted, lower end of the skirt and the bottom at LAT. This prevents the skirt from being covered by silts, which may cause submersion of the flotation as the tide rises.
