DECE 2026 is the Dubai Environment Conference and Exhibition, held on September 7-8, 2026, at the Baniyas Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Dubai, hosted by the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority. What makes it different from the region's other environmental events is that it is convened by a regulator rather than by an industry body. That changes who turns up, and it changes the questions being asked on the floor.

The program covers six strategic themes: Climate action, biodiversity, food security, natural resources, circular economy and environmental AI. Water runs through at least four of them, which is the more interesting story. Water quality is no longer a theme of its own. It is the thread connecting biodiversity, food security and natural resources, and day one made that unusually visible.

It signals that marine biodiversity and water quality are moving earlier in the project cycle. For years, these were end-of-pipe conditions attached to a permit. The direction of travel at DECE is towards treating them as design inputs, which means developers and contractors will increasingly be asked what they measured and over how long, not only what they installed.

On the evidence of day one, yes. The value is less in the panels than in the fact that regulators, researchers, utilities and contractors are on the same floor for two days.
