Pioneering Environmental Stewardship: Tees Barrage Initiative

As the global community gears up for the pivotal COP28 event, our focus at Ecocoast is set on the Nature, Land Use, and Oceans day on December 9. This day will draw attention to the imperative need for scaling robust solutions that protect, restore, and effectively manage natural ecosystems. It will play a pivotal role in emphasizing the criticality of conserving, restoring, and sustainably managing nature in alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Since 1998, Ecocoast has been at the forefront of engineering solutions dedicated to the protection of coastlines and waterways. Over the years, our efforts have resulted in the collection of countless tons of debris, marking a tangible impact on the preservation of our marine environment.

One of the significant milestones in our journey occurred in 2001 with the initiation of a groundbreaking project at Tees Barrage in the United Kingdom. This strategic location, integrated into a vast network of 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, became a focal point for intercepting debris, forming an integral part of the Canal & River Trust‘s initiatives.

The Tees Barrage stands as a distinctive and unique structure, playing a crucial role in not only regulating water levels but also serving as a pioneering site for the interception of debris.

It proudly hosted the inaugural installation of our globally trusted debris booms, setting a precedent for effective debris management worldwide.

Through this initiative, we demonstrated a proactive approach to environmental sustainability, pioneering innovative methods to protect and preserve delicate ecosystems. Additionally, our efforts contributed to the broader objectives outlined in preparation for COP28.

Our initiatives stand as a testament to our unwavering dedication to environmental preservation and our ongoing commitment to creating impactful solutions for a sustainable future.
