Case Study: Sustainable Mooring for Marine Ecosystem Protection in the Red Sea

We have been involved in Red Sea megaprojects from the very beginning, where environmental protection has always been a top priority. At the time, however, sustainable mooring solutions did not exist. Traditional systems relied on mooring chains that corrode, degrade over time and cause significant harm to the marine environment.

Yet, marine mooring is essential for many applications, including silt curtains, oil booms, demarcation and navigation buoys. This challenge drove us to develop a fully sustainable mooring solution. One designed specifically to minimize environmental impact while meeting the needs of large-scale marine installations.

Ecomoor features a neutrally buoyant mooring line that prevents seabed damage, protecting sensitive ecosystems such as coral reefs and seagrass habitats. Unlike mooring chains or other traditional mooring systems, it floats and does not touch the seabed.

It is being used across megaprojects in Saudi Arabia to protect the delicate coral ecosystems of the Red Sea, with 50 deployments in place to ensure effective environmental protection.
