Case Study: Enerwhere Partners with Ecocoast on the Middle East’s First Floating Solar Project

Ecocoast was selected by Enerwhere to deliver the mooring solution for the Middle East’s first floating photovoltaic (PV) solar farm, located off Zaya Nurai Island in Abu Dhabi. The project features our Ecomoor anchoring system, designed, manufactured and installed to secure the floating solar platform in place. While Enerwhere handled the engineering, procurement and installation of the solar system, Ecocoast ensured safe and sustainable positioning of the structure in a sensitive marine environment.

The floating solar project stands out as a regional first and is among the few floating solar farms in the world installed in a saltwater, offshore setting. Recognizing the technical challenges of deploying energy infrastructure in such environments, Enerwhere identified Ecocoast as the ideal partner to deliver a robust and environmentally sensitive mooring system.

At the core of the project is Ecomoor, a next-generation sustainable mooring solution by Ecocoast. With its neutral buoyancy, Ecomoor remains suspended in the water column, eliminating seabed drag and protecting ecosystems like coral reefs and seagrass beds. The system is engineered for long-term performance with low maintenance and reduced manpower requirements, making it ideal for offshore renewable energy installations.

The collaboration between Enerwhere and Ecocoast reflects a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in marine infrastructure. With a proven track record in delivering environmental protection solutions, Ecocoast continues to support forward-thinking projects that prioritise both performance and preservation of the marine environment.
