FAQS

Coastal resilience refers to the capacity of coastal ecosystems, infrastructure and communities to withstand, adapt to and recover from hazards such as sea‑level rise, storm surges and coastal erosion. It has become a global priority in the wake of the UN Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice, where world leaders emphasized the urgent need to protect coastal zones.

The conference led to a historic commitment of €8.7 billion in ocean finance to expand marine protected areas, strengthen climate adaptation, and support resilience-building projects. Through the Nice Ocean Action Plan, nations pledged to scale up marine conservation efforts, accelerate the blue economy, and integrate ocean-climate solutions. These are all critical steps to enhance coastal resilience and protect vulnerable shorelines worldwide.

Ecocoast’s turnkey solutions help meet the Nice Ocean Action Plan goals by tackling marine pollution and protecting coastal ecosystems. Through end-to-end services, including pollution-control booms, coastal protection barriers, regenerative (nature-based) structures and real-time monitoring, we support shoreline stability, reduce pollutant loads, and enable smarter, data-driven coastal management.

As part of our Environment portfolio, Bolina Debris Booms intercept floating litter, organic debris and flotsam before they reach sensitive shorelines. By capturing pollutants in high‑flow areas, these booms help prevent coastal fouling, enable efficient debris removal, and thereby protect both natural habitats and shoreline infrastructure.

Under mooring solutions, Ecocoast offers neutrally buoyant, modular mooring lines and custom anchor assemblies designed for resilient, sustainable coastal infrastructure. Unlike traditional moorings, these engineered systems reduce seabed impact, secure booms and barriers in high-energy environments, and ensure long-term stability during storms and strong currents.

Coastal planners can integrate Ecocoast’s nature-based and engineered solutions to address the goals of the Blue NDC Challenge and the upcoming High Seas Treaty by adopting a combined approach. This includes using silt curtains and regenerative coastal protection containers alongside marine engineering services and monitoring platforms. Together, these solutions help reduce marine pollution, restore coastal ecosystems, and improve data-driven management, supporting national climate commitments and strengthening biodiversity protection beyond national waters.

Science‑based policymaking and long‑term monitoring were key themes at UNOC3. Ecocoast’s Data Buoys and smart monitoring lanterns provide real‑time environmental and positional data to dashboards and alert systems, empowering authorities and operators to detect hazards early, coordinate rapid responses and continuously refine resilience plans with accurate, on-site information.
