Case Study: Enhancing Safety for River Users & Swimmers

The UK’s Environment Agency faced a safety challenge at Wainford Sluice on the River Waveney, where downstream recreational activities, including swimmers and small craft, posed serious risks. Turbulent water falling over the sluice gate created a hazardous environment, leading to near-miss incidents and the potential for a severe accident.

We stepped in to address these hazards by installing floating Bolina Watercraft Safety Booms downstream of the sluice. Our task also involved maintaining two existing booms at the site. These booms effectively prevent the passage of small watercraft and can be customized to accommodate different water activities.

Despite challenges posed by the pandemic, we successfully installed the Bolina Watercraft Safety Booms, demonstrating our commitment to safety. The Environment Agency will monitor the site, and early indications suggest a positive impact on reducing interference with the sluice gate. This project showcases our ability to deliver tailored solutions that prioritize safety, making a real difference in safeguarding water bodies and their users.
