Case Study: Strengthening Operations at Hydropower Plant in Mozambique

Mozambique’s Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) hydropower plant faced operational issues with waterborne debris overwhelming the existing boom. Fluctuating water levels due to weather conditions increased debris, posing a threat to the critical installation by clogging intake screens and turbines.

Approached by the client, we proposed installing a Bolina Log Screen Boom (LSB600). This boom system seamlessly traps logs and debris, with a robust design capable of withstanding heavy loads. The boom’s mesh screens provide a barrier, and customized end connections allow it to adapt to changing water levels.

The installed boom efficiently captures and diverts more debris, improving operational efficiency and reducing the need for maintenance. Assembled and installed within two weeks, the LSB600 is fully functional, providing enhanced protection to the critical HCB hydropower plant.
