Case Study: Maintaining Power Generation at Hydropower Plant

Montefurado Hydroelectric Power Plant in Spain faced disruptions due to heavy debris accumulation on one side of the dam. This posed a risk to normal functioning, leading to maintenance downtime and reduced energy production. Excessive debris buildup affected power generation and water flow efficiency.

To address this, we proposed installing a Bolina Log Screen Boom (LSB600) with horse rails and pile floats. This boom range efficiently traps debris, logs and other floating objects, preventing accumulation. The LSB600’s self-aligning compensator design allows it to smoothly adapt to changing water levels, crucial for rapid fluctuations in a hydroelectric plant.

Despite challenges in fixing the booms, we worked with the client to construct suitable structures at both ends. The installed boom successfully captures and diverts more debris, improving operational efficiency and reducing maintenance needs. Assembled and installed within two weeks, the LSB600 is now fully functional, providing enhanced protection to the critical Montefurado hydropower plant.
