Debris booms, also known as river booms, trash booms or containment booms, are floating barriers. They are designed to prevent the spread of floating waste in rivers, lakes, canals, waterways and coastal areas. These barriers effectively trap debris such as leaves, logs, seaweed, plastic and other trash. They help maintain clean and safe water environments, protecting aquatic life and preventing blockages in critical infrastructure like dams, hydroelectric power plants and reservoirs.

Bolina Permanent Debris Booms for easy containment and recovery of floating debris as a permanent installation.

Workboats can smoothly collect materials, eliminating the need for slow ‘nibbling,’ saving time, money and effort on maintenance. We engineered Europe’s longest floating debris barrier on the Scheldt River in Belgium to improve water quality. The barrier captured 218kg of plastic and debris daily, removing 7 tonnes of waste and pollutants each month.

Bolina Log Screen Booms maintain power generation where the amount of floating debris can be exceptional.
The booms play a crucial role in sustaining power generation at major hydroelectric dams across the globe, particularly in instances where the quantity of debris is unusually high.
Mesh screens are joined together to provide a seamless barrier for logs and debris with full articulation between units. Each mesh screen is easily attached to the underside of the booms via specially designed swivel connectors. Customised end connections are also available to allow the boom to follow changing water levels.
