Over the years, Ecocoast has become the go-to company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) when it comes to events that require any kind of water solution, with marine-based fireworks obviously being a major part of that.
As a company, we have been a proud partner of many spectacular New Year’s Eve extravaganzas, including the world-famous fireworks show on Palm Jumeirah. We have also lent our expertise to displays at the likes of Atlantis the Palm in Dubai and Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah, amongst many others. We’ve even helped set two world records in Ras Al Khaimah.
This year, we have been involved in 4 key events for New Year’s Eve – at the Burj Al Arab, at Atlantis on the Palm Jumeirah, at Al Majaz in Sharjah, and in Khor Fakkan, on the UAE’s East Coast. Thanks to the strong engineering core of our business, our clients asked us to take on an active role in the design and operational activities for the fireworks displays.
As such, we have been actively involved in the planning and logistics of the events, while also offering a complete engineered solution and technical support across the entire event, from planning through to delivery and execution. Ecocoast provided a full project solution for these events, working with organisers, authorities and our clients to manage the logistics and operations for all 4 fireworks displays.
In the build up to the event, we took charge of the logistics for the projects, managing the transportation of equipment, organising the delivery at site and sorting out the permits related to those activities. We also oversaw the setting up of the equipment at port before taking over the installation of the equipment in the water – part of our marine services offering. At this point, we also deployed our own fleet of boats to serve during the preparation, execution and demobilisation stages of the operation.
As part of our role in the design and planning for the events, we deployed pontoons, catamarans and barges that have been built according to the specific needs of the various firework displays. We worked closely with the companies organising the fireworks displays to fully understand their needs and requirements, before delivering our custom-built solutions for them to deploy the fireworks in a safe and coordinated manner.
In our role as a marine services expert, we were also required to help manage and mitigate the environmental conditions around the event. One of the unexpected challenges for us was the inclement weather in the UAE around New Year’s Eve this year. The rough seas and strong winds required us to assess which anchoring systems to use, as well as when to deploy the equipment into the water to ensure maximum safety and effectiveness.
Other challenges we had to overcome were related to road restrictions for heavy equipment, port restrictions and tight project time frames. By working with the relevant authorities and stakeholders, we were able to address these issues and figure out solutions to resolve them.
Given the potentially dangerous nature of these projects, one of our biggest priorities was managing the health and safety of workers during all stages of operation, particularly when working in the water. Health and safety are of paramount importance to us, so we made sure that every member of the teams had regular training, with different scenarios and simulations of emergency situations played out to prepare them for any eventuality that may occur at any stage of a project of this nature.
We also conducted regular toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, and put in place strict PPE policies for workers to follow. In this way, we ensured that there was a high level of awareness of any potential hazards, and that safety regulations were adhered to closely.
For each of the four events, our roles included:
We provided a full turnkey solution for the marine scope of the event. This included two heavy duty barges and a tugboat, which were mobilised from Port Hamriya to Port Rashid for fireworks loading and then mobilised from Port Rashid to the exact location of fireworks. We also deployed catamarans, a marine team and three boats on the project. Our scope of work included full mobilisation and demobilisation of the equipment, full installation and anchoring, and full marine support during the project.
A team of around 20 workers (including licensed divers, boat captains, coordinators, helpers, project manager) worked on this project.
For this project, we again offered a full turnkey solution for the marine scope of the event, including the provision of pontoons, a marine team, two boats, full mobilisation and demobilisation of the equipment, full installation and anchoring, and full marine support during the project.
This project had a team of around 20 workers (including licensed divers, boat captains, coordinators, helpers, project manager).

The UAE is one of the biggest and most challenging markets when it comes to fireworks, with some of the most complex and demanding projects here. It’s because of this complexity that Ecocoast has been hired to deliver these extravagant annual showcases.
